General Help Resources
If you provide a valid email address I will be able to automatically set up a weekly progress report of your child's performance to be sent every Monday.
|
You may also check your child's progress as often as you like including when they log in, how much time they spend on their class and the work they complete, by signing up for the parent portal. You will need a code, so send me an email and I will send you the code.

Growth Mindset and Self Regulation
Why should my child have a growth mindset and how do I help instill that in them? The first video is based in educational research so it's a little scientific, but hey I am a science teacher! |
How can I help my child with Self- Regulation?
- Help them set short term and long term goals:
- I will complete 5 activities today.
- I will work 3 days this week and one on the weekend.
- I will earn a 85 or higher in my course this semester.
- Help them determine their best learning environment:
- I work best in my room alone.
- I work best in the morning or late afternoon.
- I work best at the kitchen table where my parents can check to make sure I am on task
- Help them know how to navigate the systems:
- Am I familiar with geniusis and edgenuity?
- Do I know how to navigate my course and find feedback from my teacher.
- are you checking for communications from your teacher everyday?
- Help them with time management:
- help them schedule enough time per day/week to keep on pace. they should keep their dashboard at blue or green!
- It is expected that students work on pace or ahead, in addition they should work at a minimum of 1x per week even if ahead in their class.
- Ms. Urban is available Mon-Fri between 8am and 8pm. You can expect communication returned within three hours during that window. She will not respond to you at 1 am, on Saturdays, or school holidays!
- Evaluating what they know:
- How do you know you have understood something?
- If you fail an assessment the first time, review what you don't know before you try again.
- If you don't understand something reach out to your teacher for help!
- Help them be a self advocate and seek help when they need it!
- Do you know how to contact your teacher?
